Donate to Pelotonia Now

Steps for commissioning a project as part of my Pelotonia fundraising efforts:

  • Take a look at the example projects for an idea of things I am most comfortable making.
  • Read the testimonials of people who have commissioned projects with me in the past.
  • When you have written a brief and general description of what you have in mind, email me at [email protected]. Please use “Sawdust for Science” in the subject line of the message
  • I will respond, and depending on the complexity of the custom project, we will meet online, in-person, and/or through email exchanges, including 3-d modeling of the design if needed for more complex projects.
  • After we agree we are on the same page as far as the details of the project request, timeline, and corresponding donation, you will make 1/2 the donation total directly to my Pelotonia donor page and I will begin the project.
  • My plan is that unless raw materials are extraordinarily expensive (very rare wood species, specialty hardware, etc…), I will cover the cost of all materials for these projects as well as the time and craftsmanship. I have at least 50 species of hardwood in my personal inventory and there are several good mills in our area, so I am sure we can find a good match for your vision as far as species and design concept.
  • The other 1/2 of the donation will be made upon receipt of the item(s).
  • I will not make a commitment to complete any project I cannot complete by late October, the 2026 Pelotonia funding deadline. I expect the queue will fill up fast, so reach out soon!

I am not a professional woodworker but I promise that if we agree to collaborate on a project, I will produce the very best object I am capable of making. I have created some beautiful items already and look forward to making something special just for you!

Each commission project takes on a life of its own, an ongoing conversation and sometimes evolving plan between the patron and the craftsperson. My idea for this project is to raise funds for the great Pelotonia cause and provide people access to custom woodworking for whatever projects they can dream up.

In our planning conversations, each donor and I will come to a general agreement about the design, wood species, size and all other aspects of the project, and also the planned donation, commensurate to the time needed to complete the project and the value of raw materials that I will be providing. The donations should be near the value of the custom work but will generally be less than if I were doing the commission for cash.

A friend suggested people would find it helpful to have a general idea of donation expectations I had in mind for various types of projects. Below is what I came up with for this. Projects are not limited to these listed below, this is just intended to better communicate the scope of possible projects and corresponding donations. I am hoping to be challenged with exciting and ambitious projects!
