Pelotonia is clear about its mission: “[This community] is passionate about Ending Cancer. Through annual cycling and event experiences, volunteerism, and year-round fundraising, we have raised more than $339 million for innovative cancer research. And we’re not done yet.” As a “grass-roots” community effort, 100% of funds raised through multiple events is aimed at better diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer.
Every August, for Ride Weekend, thousands (yep, thousands) of Riders take to the streets of central Ohio on multiple routes; Riders raise funds through the spring/summer/early fall. A huge cadre of Volunteers help before, during and after ride weekend, to make it all happen. A group of Challengers are equally important; they raise funds to help boost research dollars.
In September, Pelotonia has added a Gravel Day ride, for those who like a different experience. Gravel riders can choose their distance (11 miles to 48 miles on the gravel ride loop, or 10- and 24-mile mountain biking routes). Again, our amazing Volunteers make this happen.
In 2025, the first Pelotonia trail run-hike was added – and it’s back for 2026. This event is a 3.5 mile route that loops through Snow Fork Event Center. Event better: participants can opt to ride first, then enter the trail run/hike course. (More info at Gravel Day Resources.)
Team Buckeye is the super-peloton – think: “team” – based in and around The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. While the offical team for the University, everyone is welcome to help – whether as a Rider, Challenger, or Volunteer, everyone’s contribution is critical to the success and end goal. It takes a big village to end cancer!
Team ASC (based in Ohio State’s College of Arts &Sciences) is one of many Team Buckeye sub-pelotons – these smaller groups in and around The Ohio State University join together on behalf of the University. We welcome faculty, staff, students and friends – everyone! – to direct our energies toward the ultimate goal.
This year will be Team ASC’s 16th year participating – and we’d love to have you join us. Want to know more? Please contact Jeremie or our captain, Terry Bradley (bradley.77 at osu dot edu).
Jeremie has been part of Team ASC for multiple rides and years; the Sawdust for Science fundraising project came out of his desire to “go farther” in support of the critical cancer research being done at the James Cancer Hospital and The Ohio State University.
